Slither Director James Gunn Teases Comic-Con Surprise For His New Horror Film

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Slither director James Gunn confirmed via Twitter yesterday that he'll indeed be making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Even though the MCU isn’t exactly short on upcoming content, Marvel has opted to steer clear of San Diego Comic-Con this year. I mean, when your biggest competitor is about to unload the first Aquaman trailer at the “largest convention of its kind in the world,” maybe don’t take the weekend off, especially when you’ve got Captain MarvelAvengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in the clip. Not to mention, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is cocked and ready to go, but I digress.

Speaking of the irreverent superheroes, though, director James Gun confirmed yesterday that he’d be attending SDCC. Granted, it’ll be without the titular supergroup, and it’s not because the entire gang – save for Rocket – was erased by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. No, instead, Gunn will be heading to “the birthplace of California” to promote a currently untitled horror movie coming from Sony Pictures that he’s working on.

That’s right, a vital cog in the Marvel machine will be at SDCC, but it’ll be of his own accord. Gunn disclosed via Twitter he’ll be seeing those in attendance “one week from today (Friday, 7/20) with something dark, sweet and special.” The caption was accompanied by an image of his name placard, confirming that he’ll indeed be there in the flesh.

It’s unknown what, exactly, Gunn will be publicizing, but seeing as it won’t be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and given the nature of his caption, we assume it’ll be in service of that aforementioned horror film, which is set to be directed by David Yarovesky and produced by Gunn. And considering Sony Pictures’ panel will be taking place on Friday in Hall H, it doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together.

As for what we know about the project, well, details remain thin on the ground, but the Slither director has already teased that it’ll be “terrifying and different.” Beyond that, we can’t tell you very much, but expect to learn more next week.
