Though we each may have our differing opinions regarding how Arrow‘s sixth season turned out, it’s probably safe to say that many of us remain optimistic regarding what’s to come. A huge reason for this is that Colton Haynes is back on as a series regular beginning this fall, as he’ll reprise his role of Roy Harper.
Now, I’m sure there are those of you reading this who favor the likes of John Diggle, Black Canary, Wild Dog or somebody else, but there’s just something special about Roy. Maybe it’s because he’s essentially the Robin to the Green Arrow’s Batman, but the live action interpretation of Arsenal would’ve fallen flat if the wrong actor had landed the gig.
Obvious stuff aside, we’re all wondering what lies ahead for the returning hero, something new showrunner Beth Schwartz discussed with TV Guide for their latest San Diego Comic-Con Special. What you’re about to read is in regard to what’s up with Roy and Thea Queen (don’t forget, Willa Holland is no longer part of the principal cast), and a little of what the future holds for the former.
Here’s the word, straight from the publication itself:
“Schwartz promises viewers will learn early on why the two aren’t together. We’ll also see Roy – aka the former vigilante Arsenal – ‘being a hero in a different sort of way,’ she says.”
From that, we can deduce the power couple has called it quits yet again, but at least we won’t have to wait long for an explanation. Still, fingers remain crossed for Roy suiting up again because, let’s face it, to bring Haynes back aboard and not have Arsenal come out of retirement would be a missed opportunity, to say the least.
Now, this is just speculation on our part, but maybe we’ll get a slow burn when it comes to having Roy return to the vigilante lifestyle. After all he’s gone through, you have to imagine that once again donning a hood is a choice he won’t make lightly. And, who knows, maybe he’ll get an upgraded costume in the process?
Arrow returns for its seventh season on Monday, October 15 on The CW.
