Quentin Tarantino isn’t one to shy away from controversy. In fact, the director practically encircles dissension in a loving embrace.
I mean, just take a look at the two-time Academy Award winner’s filmography and it should become abundantly clear that this man tackles contentious subject matter tendentiously, which is why he’s such an essential and iconic storyteller. However, even Tarantino would have to admit that the release date of his latest project, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is a tad insensitive. Thankfully, then, Sony Pictures has changed it.
Set in 1969 Los Angeles, Once Upon a time in Hollywood will shadow The Wolf of Wall Street’s male lead, Leonardo DiCaprio, as TV western actor Rick Dalton and the invisible man himself, Brad Pitt, as Cliff Booth, his stunt double, while they “embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves” during the time of the Charles Manson murders.
So, what of it? Well, seeing as the initial release date for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was August 9th, 2019, coincidentally coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the infamous Manson Family murders, Sony has opted to move Tarantino’s ninth feature behind the camera to July 26th, 2019.
Regardless of when it will land, though, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood boasts perhaps the director’s most stellar line-up for a feature yet, and that’s certainly saying a lot. With Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie officially on board, and the likes of Damian Lewis (Homeland), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) joining Pitt and DiCaprio, not to mention Best Actor winner Al Pacino and a plethora of others, there’ll be no shortage of high-end talent on the big screen, and we can’t wait to see them all in action.
