New Line’s second annual ScareDiego is in full swing now.
Steeped in horror and supernatural hijinks, the studio’s showcase is said to primarily focus on three new titles – It: Chapter Two, The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona. But there’s another equally terrifying project in the works at New Line, and we now have some clues as to what to expect.
We are, of course, referring to Annabelle 3, another product of the booming Conjuring Universe that zeroes in on that evil little doll. A primetime summer 2019 release is in place for Annabelle’s latest solo movie, which has been likened to Night at the Museum – albeit with a demonic twist.
That’s according to writer-turned-director Gary Dauberman, who earned his stripes on both Annabelle movies (and It!) before deciding that he was ready to pick up the megaphone himself. Such a change of tack means Annabelle 3 will be remembered as Dauberman’s directorial debut, and it’ll seemingly take place inside the Warren household.
The home belonging to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren is likely packed with spooky delights and ghostly apparitions, so it’s perhaps the perfect location for Annabelle 3 to wreak havoc. Word is Dauberman and producer James Wan have concocted a story which involves cinema’s other devil doll breaking into the Warren archives and liberating a number of cursed artifacts – artifacts that later go on to haunt their 10-year-old daughter, Judy.
It’s a far cry from Ben Stiller running about a museum, desperately trying to keep all of his animated objects in line, but we’re intrigued by the use of a single location nonetheless. Annabelle 3Â will be summoned into theaters on July 3rd, 2019.
