Marvel Studios’ Exclusive SDCC Poster Celebrates 10 Years Of The MCU

Ryan Meinerding's celebratory Marvel poster is coming to San Diego Comic-Con, and it raises a glass to the first 10 years of the MCU.

Considering 2018 was the year in which Marvel Studios launched Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp, you’d be forgiven for expecting some form of MCU-related showcase at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. It’s only the biggest geek-friendly event on the movie calendar, after all…

Alas, that’s not the case, as Marvel’s top brass have confirmed plans to forego SDCC – ditto for D23 – so that all films post-Avengers 4 remain firmly under wraps. And, well, you can’t exactly fault the studio’s reasoning; nowadays, a new installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can almost sell itself without the need for a prolonged two-year lead-in.

For SDCC attendees, though, 2018’s showcase will still offer a moment of reflection, as Marvel Studios will seemingly be handing out special anniversary posters to commemorate 10 years of the MCU.

Coming to us by way of Reddit, this SDCC exclusive places a particular emphasis on Josh Brolin’s Thanos, around which you’ll see such prominent Marvel figures as Robert Downey Jr., Captain Marvel, Loki and Ryan Coogler, the director responsible for Black Panther. Upon closer inspection, the poster itself appears to have been designed by MCU veteran Ryan Meinerding.

Truth be told, it’s not quite as jaw-dropping as the variant covers designed by Matt Taylor, but this is nevertheless a cool and celebratory keepsake for the first 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – just think about what the next decade may hold for the House of M.

Next to emerge from the MCU is Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s standalone Captain Marvel movie, which has been cleared for take-off on March 8th, 2019.
