Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Senses Are Tingling In This New Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Photo

Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales all have a bad feeling about something, but it’s probably not the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that they’re anxious about, with promotion for the Sony Pictures animation continuing to go down a storm with fans.

The studio took to Twitter to sign off a successful weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con last night by posting a new image in which the spider-senses of these three “spider-people” have alerted them all to something suspicious.

Peter, Gwen and Miles – voiced by Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld and Shameik Moore, respectively – won’t be the only characters endowed with wall-crawling abilities though, with attendees of this weekend’s Comic-Con being treated to some new footage featuring several more alternate universe Spider-Men.

In what may be an inspired bit of casting, Nicolas Cage will be voicing Spider-Man Noir, a gun-toting Peter Parker from a noir-styled timeline. Quirkier still is Peter Porker, aka Spider-Ham, a pig web-slinger voiced by John Mulaney. Add to that the inclusion of Peni Parker, aka SP//dr – a teenager from a technologically advanced parallel universe voiced by Kimiko Glenn – and you have to imagine that the skies of New York are going to look pretty crowded.

Evidently, radioactive spider powers won’t be an especially unique character trait in this Christopher Miller and Phil Lord-penned movie, but out of all these Spideys jostling for a place in the spotlight, it’s Miles Morales who’ll be the star of the show. Moore made an appearance at the SDCC panel, too, where he expressed his excitement at voicing the character’s big screen debut.

“He’s a black Spider-Man, black and Mexican,” Moore said. “I think that that’s very powerful and iconic. I was thankful for the opportunity. The fact that it looks this beautiful…was a pleasant surprise. The fact that I was able to have the opportunity to audition, book, and become the original Miles Morales it was like, ‘Oh my god, this is amazing!'”

Moore’s enthusiasm is very much shared by the fans, who’ll be counting the days until Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into cinemas on December 14th, 2018.
