Warner Bros.’ panel today at San Diego Comic-Con revealed a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the upcoming sequel which follows the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he’s recruited by Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to track down and defeat the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).
Along with this awesome new look at the film, a slew of hi-res images from Fantastic Beasts 2 have been released which offer another glimpse at what the trailer has to offer. Some of the most exciting and intriguing moments are highlighted here, too.
Seen in the gallery below, one of the photos gives us our best look yet at Depp’s role in the movie, as Grindelwald’s captured orating to a crowd about his desire to rise up and subjugate mugglekind. Another, meanwhile, showcases the film’s Parisian setting, as well as a return for fan favorite creature the Niffler.
Also of note is the shot that features not one but two Newts, as Redmayne’s character appears to be viewing a memory of his Hogwarts days, most likely via Dumbledore’s Pensieve. Likewise, there’s another callback to the Harry Potter films in the appearance of the Mirror of Erised, which Dumbledore’s seen looking into and seeing a reflection of Grindelwald.
Finally, another Sorcerer’s Stone connection is made in the presence of Nicholas Flamel, the immortal creator of the Philsopher’s Stone, shown meeting Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogel) in one of the images. He’s a surprise addition to the film, too, so we’ve yet to see exactly what his role is in the plot.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald comes from long-running Wizarding World director David Yates and also stars Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Zoe Kravitz, Claudia Kim and Callum Turner. You can catch the sequel when it apparates into theaters on November 16th.
