Watch Jodie Whittaker Travel To Comic-Con In Fun Doctor Who Season 11 Promo

Doctor Who made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con this year, as the cast and crew of the upcoming eleventh season of the BBC's jewel in the crown unveiled details about the show's soft reboot for the first time. We might not've got as much info about the upcoming season as we'd predicted - there's still no news on a release date, for one - but the first proper trailer for the new run was enough to whet fans' appetites for Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.

Doctor Who made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con this year, as the cast and crew of the upcoming eleventh season of the BBC’s jewel in the crown unveiled details about the show’s soft reboot for the first time. We might not’ve got as much info about the upcoming season as we’d predicted – there’s still no news on a release date, for one – but the first proper trailer for the new run was enough to whet fans’ appetites for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor.

Speaking of whom, BBC America kicked off their panel with a fun little video that saw the actress making her way to Comic-Con. The tongue-in-cheek clip (below) sees Jodie rushing to get from Doctor Who‘s hometown of Cardiff, Wales to San Diego in record time, and she doesn’t even use the TARDIS (it’s not for personal use, apparently).

At the panel, the video was followed by Whittaker appearing on stage in the same outfit as seen in the sketch, complete with the hood. It was a fun way to introduce the new Doctor to the audience and, though it didn’t see her in character, it did mirror the tone in the trailer – which is that her version of the Time Lord will be fun and full of energy.

According to what we learned at the SDCC panel, season 11 will be open to all kinds of viewers, with the aim being to attract a horde of new fans with this restart of sorts for the series. Whittaker called her Doctor “a pillar of hope”, too, which showrunner Chris Chibnall echoed by saying that’s exactly what we need in these dark times of ours. Amen to that!

Doctor Who‘s next season will consist of 10 episodes, which will be entirely standalone, as well as the traditional Christmas special. The BBC is keeping coy about when we can expect it to air, but we’re pretty sure it’s coming in either September or October. As always, watch this space for more.
