Zachary Quinto Confirms R-Rating For Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek Movie

While chatting to USA Today, Zachary Quinto reaffirmed the R rating in place for Quentin Tarantino's nascent Star Trek movie.

If the Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie really is to spell the end of Zachary Quinto’s time as Spock, then the actor is about to go out with a bang. An R-rated bang at that.

While chatting to USA Today, Quinto waxed lyrical about the Star Trek franchise, which currently has two very exciting, very different projects developing in parallel to one another. So while director S.J. Clarkson fully intends to get the Kelvin timeline crew back together for Star Trek 4, Tarantino is beginning to make serious headway on his own Star Trek movie, which has J.J. Abrams attached to produce.

There’s been no mention of a possible launch window for this new and R-rated pic – a franchise first, no less – but make no mistake, it will be rated R, presumably for violence and Quentin Tarantino’s tendency to scatter a few hundred F-bombs throughout his script.

On a more serious note, here’s what Zachary Quinto told USA Today:

We’re waiting on specifics. I’m thrilled that we might have the opportunity to work with [Tarantino] and see what he would do with us in this universe. It’s going to be an R-rated version of Star Trek, which would be the first (in) the movies, and that’s exciting. I’ve been a fan of his for years, and I’m really inspired by his originality. Take that originality and mix it with this world full of incredible ideology and colorful characters, and the result could be pretty thrilling.

Pretty thrilling, indeed. Tarantino still has Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to contend with, so we imagine it’ll be early 2019 before he’s ready to whip his Star Trek movie into shape.

Assuming that is indeed the case, then there’s a very good chance Paramount will fast-track the fourth film from S.J. Clarkson, who’s about to become the first female director to take control of a live-action Trek movie. And it’s about damn time.
