For the first time since Avengers: Infinity War opened stateside on April 27th, you can finally catch a snippet, or two, of the titular supergroup as they come face-to-face with the Mad Titan from the comfort of your own couch.
With the pic scheduled to make the intergalactic journey to home video next month – digitally this coming Tuesday – Marvel and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have been slowly releasing some of the bonus content that’ll be accompanying the fourth ever ticket booth titan to conquer the elusive $2 billion plateau onto home video.
At San Diego Comic-Con last week, we got our first look at a deleted scene from the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed blockbuster, which should be included on your physical copy. Not only that, but earlier this week, we posted a BTS clip of Robert Downey Jr. and Josh Brolin in action and just yesterday, we got to see a bit of the directors roundtable featuring the Russo Brothers, Ryan Coogler, Peyton Reed, Jon Favreau, James Gunn and Joss Whedon – both of which should be packed in there as well.
Now, we’ve got an extended behind the scenes look at how the fight sequence between the Avengers and Thanos on Titan came to life, which you can check out below as many times as you’d like.
Perhaps the most impressive set-up we see in this video is Brolin interacting with Downey Jr. The former’s wearing a full mocap suit, but with a cardboard Thanos on a post stuck to his back. This allows anyone playing opposite him to know where to look when he’s speaking, but also allows him to directly interact with the other members of the cast, as seen when he places a hand on Stark’s head. It avoids the common pitfalls of a CGI character not quite interacting with real people correctly, and this attention to detail clearly paid off gangbusters give how good Thanos was in the movie.
The clip also sees the likes of directors Anthony and Joe Russo, executive producer Trinh Tran, stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave and Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, discuss the making of this massive set piece and concludes with a good chunk of the theatrical version of the scene.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until Avengers: Infinity War hits Digital HD next week, or Blu-ray next month, to watch the full thing, but something tells us it’ll be worth it.
