The Joker Origin Movie Is Targeting Another Big Name

Marc Maron of Glow fame has come into contention for Warner's Joker origin movie, according to sources close to Variety.

It seems Warner’s ’80s-set Joker origin movie is on the verge of adding another big name to its stellar cast.

Variety has the scoop, revealing that Marc Maron, star of wrestling drama Glow, may have just landed a role that’ll keep him busy during the show’s hiatus. Should a deal place, he’ll assume the part of a “booking agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.”

The Joaquin Phoenix-led DC movie, which is simply going by the title Joker, has been placed on the fast-track over at Warner Bros., what with production set to commence in New York City this September. That’ll ensure the origin pic is well on its way to making that October 2019 release window, when it’ll be opening in close proximity to another DC movie in the shape of Wonder Woman 1984.

But it’s looking increasingly likely that this Joker movie will exist as its own separate beast, one largely unaffected by the goings-on of the DC Universe (or Worlds of DC, as it’s now officially known). That means Jared Leto’s still scheduled to reprise his role as the Clown Prince of Crime further down the road, but at least for now, it’s Joaquin Phoenix and his cackling mega-villain that’s taken precedence.

Other big-name stars on board for this include Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz, who’s still riding high after her performance in Deadpool 2. Elsewhere, Frances Conroy, star of Six Feet Under, is said to be negotiating for the role of the Clown Prince of Crime’s mother, Penny.

So make no mistake, when it comes to Warner’s Joker movie, the wheels are very much in motion, and we’ll be bringing you all the latest as the spinoff approaches its October 2019 due date.
