Over on Instagram (h/t Reddit), the filmmaker reposted the open letter calling on Disney to reinstate James Gunn at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and there’ve been rumblings that the blowback is beginning to work – Disney is said to be mulling over its decision and may well pull a U-turn in the coming days.

Regardless, the Guardians’ open letter gained the backing of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, and Karen Gillan, without whom the lucrative Guardians of the Galaxy franchise would cease to exist.

It’s essentially their way of standing up for the ousted James Gunn, and while they don’t endorse those insensitive tweets (how can one defend the indefensible?), Pratt and Co. are of the belief that Gunn’s worthy of a second chance – something that Scott Derrickson himself appears to agree on, too.

The director’s Instagram post arrived without a caption as well, but the fact that he reported said letter to his thousands of followers is pretty significant in and of itself. The creative duo are close friends, too, and we understand James Gunn was the one who shot Stan Lee’s cameo for Doctor Strange – Scott Derrickson, on the other hand, has left Twitter in solidarity with Gunn.

So, it seems there’s more unrest in the Marvel camp, though whether this very public protest makes much of a difference is another question entirely. More on that James Gunn saga as it develops and remember, as things stand, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due in theaters sometime in 2020 – May, in all likelihood.
