While speaking to Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con late last month (h/t ComicBook.com), Levi waxed lyrical about his big DC debut, and why he believes Billy Batson’s superpowered hero is the only one capable of giving Kal-El a run for his money – more so than even a kryptonite-laced Batman with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Besides, as the actor so rightly points out, Shazam and Supes have come to blows numerous times in the past, so it’s only fitting that viewers are treated to a cinematic equivalent at some point – if not during Shazam!, then sometime in the not-so-distant future.

Shazam and Superman have iconic battles throughout the history of the comic books, because Captain Marvel/Shazam is the only one who has a shot of beating Superman — and has. Listen, Cavill. I’m not trying to start anything, but don’t start nothing, there won’t be nothing….Yeah, that would be pretty fun to do that.

Pretty fun, indeed. It’d certainly be a feast for the eyes, as Shazam’s god-like abilities would be enough to bring the very best out of Superman, as two of DC’s greatest ever heroes go toe-to-toe.

Granted, the last time Warner Bros. placed two of its marquee stars in the ring together, things didn’t turn out so well, and given the reports that standalone, character-driven adventures will take precedence over the next few years, we can’t imagine the Powers That Be will be rushing to tee up a brawl between Superman and Billy Batson.

The latter will be on our screens next year thanks to the long-anticipated release of Shazam! April 5th, 2019 is the date for your diaries.
