Throughout the last week or so, both Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 made their way onto your preferred digital platform. Having each surpassed the ten-figure plateau at the box office – one more emphatically than the other, obviously – it’s only natural to assume the Marvel fanbase would make the artificial release of the pair equally as successful, which it has, as the twain currently occupy the first and second spot on the iTunes Top Movies chart.
Scheduled to complete the intergalactic journey to home video on August 14th courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Avengers: Infinity War – unquestionably the more profitable of the Marvel kin – will hit the ground running and presumptively dominate the market for some time, due in no small part to a plethora of bonus content, not the least of which is an audio commentary done by directing twosome Joe and Anthony Russo and the dynamic writing duo of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
For an example of the kind of insight this formidable team can provide into the filmmaking process – should you choose to purchase it, of course – it was recently discovered that during the audio track in question, Markus disclosed that the Cloak of Levitation, worn by Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), was occasionally played by a motion capture actor.
That’s right, the Cloak was sporadically brought to life by none other than motion capture maestro, Terry Notary: “He had a memorable day where he played Doctor Strange’s cape. That’s right; he did it. He became a cape,” said Markus. Although, the mystical shroud was far from his only contribution to Avengers: Infinity War. During production, Notary portrayed not only Cull Obsidian, but Teenage Groot, as well.
You might be familiar with Notary from his mo-cap performance in Kong: Skull Island, where he played the titular gorilla. He also worked alongside MCU colleague, Andy Serkis, in War for the Planet of the Apes. And if you’re looking for even more of him, the actor’s scheduled to reprise his role as Teenage Groot – well, some variation of the Flora Colossus – in Avengers 4 next year.
