Michael Myers is headed for Canada, folks!
Though Blumhouse and David Gordon Green’s Halloween sequel, reboot, whatever you want to call it, won’t open until October 19th, it seems as if those who live up north will get the chance to see it a bit early. That’s because it’s been announced today that the movie will stage its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 6th-16th.
The exact date on which it’ll premiere hasn’t been revealed as of yet, but given that most of the big premieres tend to take place on the first weekend of the festival, we imagine it’ll be at some point around then. Perhaps on the 7th or 8th. Whatever the case, this means that we’ll be getting the first wave of reviews over a month before release.
Pitched as a direct sequel to the original, albeit with a slight deviation from its ending – Michael Myers was actually apprehended after that fateful night in ’87, which conveniently leaves Nick Castle’s monstrosity in prison for 40 years – Halloween has been described as powerful and scary as all heck by Jamie Lee Curtis, who’s back in the role of Laurie Strode.
She’s matured into a bona fide warrior, too, which tees up an unmissable clash between Strode and Myers ahead of the film’s release in October. And thanks to the R-rating, we know that Green and co-writer Danny McBride are about to dial things up to 11.
Featuring “fresh and inventive” music from the one and only John Carpenter, Halloween creeps into theaters in time for October 19th. Or, if you’re in Canada and more specifically, Toronto, it’ll be here in just under a month. And how exciting is that?
