Via Entertainment Weekly, we now have our first look at Holmes and Watson, the all-star comedy romp headlined by none other than Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, the duo famous for Anchorman, Step Brothers and Talladega Nights.

As you’ll see from EW’s exclusive photo reveal, it’s Will Ferrell who will be donning the deerstalker hat this Christmas, when he’ll be cracking cases and generally reveling in 20th century London alongside Dr. John Watson (Reilly). It certainly makes for a big departure from previous Holmes/Watson duos like Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (not to mention Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law), so we’re excited to see how one of Hollywood’s most bankable double acts tackle the celebrated detective stories of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Via EW:

Other cast members include Lauren Lapkus as Millie (a Holmes aficionado, no less), Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, Mission: Impossible alum Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie and Ralph Fiennes of Harry Potter fame. All in all, it makes for an incredible ensemble, while we understand Etan Cohen will be calling the shots from behind the lens.

The long-in-development Holmes and Watson will sneak into theaters on December 21st of this year, by which point moviegoers will be flocking to see Bumblebee: The Movie and a little-known DC project called Aquaman on the big, big screen. Suffice it to say, the residents of 221b Baker Street face a tall order if they’re to carve out an audience of their own this festive season.

As always, keep your cursors pointed in the direction of WGTC as we’ll have full coverage of the film’s upcoming trailer reveal, too.
