In contrast to rumors from earlier this month, which claimed the exact opposite, Variety is now telling us that their sources say Disney will likely be using James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after all. As it seems there’s no chance of the fired director being rehired now due to his inappropriate tweets from yesteryear resurfacing last month, folks have been wondering what would happen with the completed screenplay Gunn handed into studio execs earlier this year.
And though there’s still no word from either Disney or Marvel on the situation, this is now the second reputable report we’ve had telling us that the filmmaker’s words will remain in tact and form the basis of the threequel. Of course, there’s always a small chance that Disney will want to distance itself from James Gunn by any means necessary and scrap his screenplay entirely so that the director’s name is in no way affiliated with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but at this point, it’s looking like that won’t happen.
At the very least, this is good news for fans of Dave Bautista and the character of Drax the Destroyer. The former WWE star has definitely not been pulling his punches on social media since whole situation began. Most recently, he claimed that he’d ask Disney to let him exit his contract if they ditched the former director’s script for Guardians 3.
Thankfully, then, it doesn’t look like that’ll happen, and it’s easy to imagine why the studio would want to keep James’ script, too, as it would seriously set Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 back if they had to start from scratch. That said, you can bet that those who supported his firing won’t be pleased that Gunn’s still involved in the production in any capacity. But then again, you can’t please everyone, right?
