This is, after all, the duo responsible for James T. Kirk and Luke frickin’ Skywalker, so it’s fair to say that they carry a lot of clout in the sci-fi community. Enough clout to, say, have Carrie Fisher recognized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

That’s the latest point put forward by William Shatner, who took to Twitter to ask whether Fisher, the late actress better known as Princess Leia, has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The answer? No. At least, not yet, though Shatner and Hamill are making a strong case for it, as evidenced by the former’s tweet from earlier in the week in which he called on the Internet at large to get behind Mark Hamill’s plea to have Fisher’s name enshrined on Hollywood Boulevard – perhaps even replacing Donald Trump’s own star in the process, as Hamill suggests.

Via Twitter:

Per the official website for Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, only one posthumous actor can be added per year, while the five-year waiting period means that Carrie Fisher wouldn’t be eligible to receive her star until the year 2021 – long after the Skywalker Saga has come to a close with the launch of Star Wars: Episode IX.

So we still have a long way to go before Hollywood’s one true princess is recognized on the Boulevard, thoug it would certainly be an apt and fitting tribute to Carrie Fisher, without whom Star Wars just wouldn’t be the same – and, sadly, won’t be the same now that J.J. Abrams and his team are preparing to film the first mainline movie in a post-Fisher world.
