The Women Of The Arrowverse Want An All-Female Crossover

The Arrowverse has accrued a lot of superheroines across its assembled shows, so isn’t it about time that the ladies of the DC TV universe get their own crossover? That’s what some of the leading actresses of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow think.

Bustle spoke to Arrowverse stars Caity Lotz (Sara Lance), Candice Patton (Iris West), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Vixen), Tala Ashe (Zari) and Juliana Harkavy (Black Canary) recently and got the lowdown on why they think the franchise desperately needs an all-girl crossover.

For starters, Ashe revealed that each of them have pitched the idea to their respective showrunners, partly driven from a desire to see their characters all share the screen without the scene revolving around one of the male characters.

“On our own show, all of us separately have said to the writers, ‘Let’s have a girls’ episode.’ Not just for the sake of having a girls’ night, but realizing that it’s kind of rare, actually, to be in a scene where it’s just women. What is that conversation between five [superhero] women when it’s not about a man? That would be exciting to me, so yeah, let’s freaking crossover it up!”

Caity Lotz then clarified that their call for an all-female crossover is not because they want to cast out the men of the Arrowverse, but more because it’d be a lot of fun for the actresses to hang out.

“I mean, we’re not trying to shut out men or be anti-men…Would that be fun? Yes, that would be really fun!”

For Patton, this interest in a women-only crossover comes from her ongoing call to get more actresses on The Flash, something she’s pleased is finally happening in the upcoming fifth season – with Jessica Parker Kennedy and Danielle Nicolet joining the regular cast.

“For so long our cast was just two women, [myself and Danielle Panabaker]. My question was always like, ‘When are we getting more women?” We’d go through another season and we’d add a male. And then the next season, we’d add another male. We’re going into Season 5, we just added two women of color on our show as series regulars, bringing our number of female regulars on the show up to four, which is amazing. I mean, if you would have said that to my 14-year-old self, there’s no way I would have believed you.”

Harkavy, meanwhile, has been campaigning for something similar over on Arrow, as she and co-star Emily Bett Rickards are looking forward to sharing more scenes together on the seventh season of the show.

“Emily [Bett Rickards] and I asked Beth [Schwartz, new Arrow showrunner] to have more scenes together this year. I love working with the women. My favorite thing is to kick butt with other women on our show.”

Seeing how much TV the Arrowverse produces every year, it’s pretty shocking that we haven’t got a superheroine team-up yet, but here’s hoping the producers heed the actresses’ words and get on that at some point this season.
