Chris Hemsworth Admits That Thor: The Dark World Wasn’t Good

In an exhaustive interview with GQ, Chris Hemsworth has admitted what we all already know, that being that Thor: The Dark World wasn't very good.

For all its other successes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its fair share of naff villains. Arguably, the worst is Malekith the Accursed, the leader of the Dark Elves from 2013’s already underwhelming Thor: The Dark World. It turns out it’s not only the fans who don’t look upon Malekith highly, either, as actor Christopher Eccleston has also blasted the role on various occasions.

Now, another Chris from the movie is sharing his thoughts on the sequel, and this time, it’s star Chris Hemsworth. The Aussie actor sat down with GQ recently for a length interview and admitted that The Dark World wasn’t very good. He didn’t exactly slam it like Eccleston’s done in the past, but rather, he simply called it “meh.”

“The first one is good, the second one is meh,” Hemsworth says. “What masculinity was, the classic archetype—it just all starts to feel very familiar. I was so aware that we were right on the edge.”

As mentioned above, we’d certainly agree with the actor here. Thor was a solid, if unspectacular film. The Dark World, however, was pretty underwhelming and is considered by most fans to be one of the weakest MCU entries to date. If not the weakest.

Thankfully, then, things have been looking much brighter for the God of Thunder lately. Ever since his total overhaul in Ragnarok, Thor’s become one of the most beloved and exciting heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He had a great role in Infinity War, too, and will surely be vital to next year’s Avengers 4 as well.

Beyond that? Well, we wouldn’t rule out a fourth solo outing for him just yet, but whatever it is that the studio has planned for the character, you can be sure that it’ll be a whole lot better than what we saw in Thor: The Dark World.
