Top Gun: Maverick isn’t the only Paramount gig scheduled for a 2020 release – per Deadline, the studio has also set A Quiet Place 2 for May 15th of that same year.
John Krasinski is writing the horror sequel, though it’s still unclear if he’ll step behind the camera once more. It’s being reported today that Paramount is actively seeking out a director to spearhead the sequel to A Quiet Place, all but confirming that Krasinski will take a backseat – presumably due to his ongoing involvement in Amazon’s rebooted Jack Ryan series.
Be that as it may, after grossing $332 million worldwide against a budget of just $17 million, A Quiet Place was a shoo-in for the sequel treatment, and the incredible performance of Krasinski’s passion project will surely lay the groundwork for a more ambitious follow-up set within the same apocalyptic universe overrun by sightless aliens.
And as producer Andrew Form told Collider earlier this year, John Krasinski will still be heavily involved in the creation of A Quiet Place 2 – even if he doesn’t wind up calling the shots from behind the lens.
Oh [Krasinski is] definitely involved. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.
It’s official: the sequel to A Quiet Place will creep into theaters (and our nightmares!) on May 15th, 2020. The only other films of any real consequence slated for a similar window include Godzilla vs. Kong (May 20th) and an untitled project from Marvel Studios. Spoilers: it’s not Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
