Dave Bautista Auditioned For Multiple Star Wars Movies

Since stepping away from his career as a professional wrestler, Dave Bautista has found huge success as a Hollywood star, appearing in movies such as Spectre, Blade Runner 2049 and, of course, the Guardians of the Galaxy films. It turns out he could have been part of the Star Wars saga as well, though. That is, if he wasn't rejected twice.

That is, if he wasn’t rejected twice.

While speaking with Flickering Myth to promote his new movie Final Score, Bautista admitted that appearing in Star Wars would have achieved a lifelong goal, but it sadly wasn’t to be on either occasion.

“I’ve actually auditioned for a couple of Star Wars [movies] and they’ve turned me down. It was always a dream of mine to be in a Star Wars film.”

This is interesting news, as we’re curious to know which character Bautista was up for. It’s fair to say the actor’s usually cast at least partially for his hulking stature, so it stands to reason that he auditioned for a couple of roles that either ended up being, or could have been, recognizable for their size. However, none immediately spring to mind.

Perhaps things worked out in the end, though, as it turns out the man known for playing Marvel’s Drax the Destroyer isn’t a big lover of the modern entries in the Star Wars franchise anyways. However, he did enjoy at least one of them.

“I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the latest installments. I particularly loved Rogue One. I thought it was a really great film and I love that they went a little bit dark with it. I thought it was really interesting.”

Hearing that Dave Bautista has a problem with how Disney’s treating one of its franchises is becoming a regular thing nowadays. Since the removal of director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the actor’s not held back on social media – even threatening to quit if Gunn’s script is thrown out. It’s possible that his standpoint has resulted in the stalemate that’s left Guardians 3 on hiatus, too, and it’ll be fascinating to see how the situation continues to unfurl from here.
