Chicago Bears’ Lance Briggs To Wear 9/11 Tribute Gear

With as much time and energy the NFL is putting into making the season opening games a tribute for the victims of 9/11, you'd think they would want all their players to don the Red, White, and Blue. The league has a couple days to make things right and allow the players to wear our colors proudly.

Chicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs isn’t the most popular Bear these days. His oddly timed contract / ‘trade me’ demands has turned off many Chicago fans, but his latest venture will have fans forgetting his greed, as he’s willing to incur a fine for wearing cleats and gloves that aren’t approved by the NFL.

The cleats and gloves are designed by Reebok to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks. I hope more players around the league would take a similar stand.

The NFL actually employs a fashion police to look for violations.  Un-tucked jersey, socks not pulled up, scribbles on a towel, and yes, unauthorized shoes and/or gloves. Briggs was quoted in the Chicago Tribune that he expects to be fined about $15,000 for the two uniform violations. He declared it will be “by far the best fine I will ever have to pay.”

* The NFL announced via tweet that players can wear tribute apparel for week 1 games.

Well done NFL.  Well done…
