One Redditor Predicted The Disney/James Gunn Fallout Back In April

Over on Reddit, one astute Marvel fan actually predicted that James Gunn would be fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3... as an April Fool's Day joke.

Four months ago, when Marvel Studios was bracing for the arrival of a little-known film called Avengers: Infinity War, one Redditor posted an innocent April Fool’s Day joke claiming that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been canceled due to a fallout between Kevin Feige and James Gunn.

Fast forward to now and, well, the third Guardians movie has been postponed indefinitely after Disney decided to part ways with Gunn due to a series of inappropriate tweets from yesteryear. The resemblance is… uncanny, even if Vol. 3 is still on the cards at Marvel Studios.

From what we understand, the company is still in the process of whittling down its candidates to replace Gunn in the driving seat, though Disney is seemingly in no rush, and is willing to surrender the film’s May 2020 release date in order to find a suitable director.

That search is ongoing, but below, you’ll see that one particularly astute Marvel fan predicted the entire ordeal four months ago, and framed it as an April Fool’s Day gag.

How’s that for a mystic Marvel prophecy? If only the circumstances of Gunn’s dismissal were as simple as a fallout between him and MCU boss Kevin Feige.

The truth of the matter is that James Gunn was removed from his post after a string of gross and frankly disturbing tweets were uncovered. Some, like Dave Bautista, are of the mindset that he deserves a second chance, and has clearly redeemed himself (and apologized) in the intervening years. But others aren’t convinced, and believe Gunn’s crude content is at odds with the family-friendly entertainment that’s always been a hallmark of Disney.

Whatever side of the fence you find yourself on, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on ice for the foreseeable future.
