New Promo For The Nun Delivers A Solid Scare

A new promo for The Nun has crept online today, and it delivers a solid scare ahead of the film's release in theaters this Friday.

To quote an oft-used phrase in horror circles: reader beware, you’re in for a scare.

Those familiar with R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series will know it well, of course, but it also applies to the latest promo for The Nun, New Line and Corin Hardy’s horror prequel which is set to whisk viewers off to 1950s Romania, where a demonic force has sunk its teeth (literally and figuratively) into an unsuspecting monastery.

Even the church’s greatest exorcists, like Father Burke (Demián Bichir of Alien: Covenant), stand no chance against Valak. She’s already been caught peering over Burke’s shoulder, for instance, and today’s brief but terrifying teaser offers another potent dose of scares ahead of the film’s release this Friday.

Story-wise, we understand that The Nun is set long before New Line’s core Conjuring series – in 1952, to be precise, when a Romanian monastery was graced (i.e. terrified) by Valak’s presence. And so begins an old-school horror tale about a dark, demonic force infecting what should otherwise be a sanctuary for religion, peace and tranquility.

Said to include “very little CGI” (which is music to our ears), Corin Hardy and Co. will officially summon The Nun into theaters this Friday, September 7th. And if it does as well as analysts expect it to, it’ll add to the impressive total box office haul of The Conjuring series (comprising the four Conjuring movies, Annabelle and its sequel) of $1.1 billion. I don’t know about you, but as a long time fan of the genre, I’m pretty psyched to be living in a world where horror is this good, not to mention this bankable. And long may it continue.
