It’s been nearly a decade since the release of Zombieland, but we should probably start getting ready for a journey back to Pacific Playland.

Although the idea of a sequel to the moderately successful post-apocalyptic comedy had been tossed around a lot this year, what with co-screenwriter Paul Wernick providing a status update on a possible follow-up, and the other scribe, Rhett Reese, acknowledging an inescapable time jump, it wasn’t until recently that we received confirmation.

Yes, back in July we were told that Zombieland 2 is officially a go, and better yet, all of the core characters will be returning to the fray, including Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee, Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus, Emma Stone’s Wichita and Abigail Breslin’s Little Rock. Of course, Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the original and is also bringing us Venom this fall, will be back in the director’s chair as well, and now, we know that the sequel will shoot in January.

That’s according to Production Weekly, who’ve revealed January 28th as the start of production, when the sequel will film under the working title of Zombieland Too. To go along with the confirmed start date, we’ve also got the official synopsis, which you can read below:

“Through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the Zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”

Having grossed just over $100 million globally on a production budget of nearly $25 million, Zombieland didn’t exactly have the ticket booth as lively as Sony would’ve hoped, but the pic found much success with critics, seeing as it currently sits at 90% on the Tomatometer and has gathered quite the cult following. Therefore, the ten year window between the original and the sequel is understandable and with any luck, the follow-up will end up being well worth the wait.
