Though it’s been a full six weeks since Disney and writer-director James Gunn went their separate ways, it’s fair to say that the industry is still feeling the aftershocks of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 losing its prized director at this stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After all, it was Gunn who plucked Star-Lord and the gang from the depths of obscurity and made them households names, a fact that still rings true today thanks to their appearance in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Fast forward to now, though, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is officially in need of a new captain, otherwise Marvel’s cosmic threequel is at risk of becoming a rudderless ship. Ghostbusters helmer Paul Feige is out of the race, leading us to believe that Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi is actually the early frontrunner.

Whatever the outcome, Michelle Yeoh of Crazy Rich Asians is still adjusting to the fact that the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is no longer under the control of James Gunn.

I was shocked, horrified that we can allow something like that to happen. I don’t understand at all. It’s so unnecessary, what good does it do?

The actress spoke to Yahoo Movies earlier this week to commemorate the runaway success of Crazy Rich Asians, and as any MCU fan will tell you, Michelle Yeoh actually made a brief appearance during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where she held the role of Aleta Ogord.

Alas, we can’t imagine Yeoh’s comments will have much of an impact on the fallout between James Gunn and Disney, whose main priority will now be to find Gunn’s successor as soon as possible, otherwise Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may slip further into 2020.
