Gotham’s Robin Lord Taylor Would Love To Play Robin

These days, it's not entirely uncommon for actors to have played more than one comic book character. When discussing this topic, the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Ben Affleck, Brandon Routh and Chris Evans immediately spring to mind, but this seems to be an ever-expanding club.

And, if someone can eventually grant the wishes of Robin Lord Taylor, he’ll be among the next inductees.

You see, during his panel conducted at Fan Expo Canada, the Gotham star said that though he feels “the show is perfectly cast,” there’s another icon he’d like to play other than Penguin. And according to Bam Smack Pow, it’s a hero known the world over:

“If I could just get fit enough, maybe commit to something in my life, I would love to play Robin.”

Now, this is just speculation on my part, but some of Taylor’s love for the character may come via sharing the name of “Robin” with Batman’s apprentice. Seriously, with that name, you’d naturally have had to be compared to the Boy Wonder at some point during your life, right?

But considering how the man who’s brought new dimension to Oswald Cobblepot is already 40 years of age, he’d logically have to play a more matured version of the character. Immediately leaping into my imagination is the Earth-2 Dick Grayson that took over for Batman in the comics a few decades back.

Long story short, DC once explored an alternate reality wherein Dick succeeded Bruce Wayne, but instead of calling himself Batman, he remained as Robin. Granted, there were definite nods to the Caped Crusader made by his upgraded costume, but he proudly retained his codename. It may be a longshot for such a concept to make its way to live action, sure, but this seems like one of the only feasible ways that Taylor could land a gig as someone whom we normally think to be on the younger side.

Gotham returns for its fifth season sometime in early 2019 on Fox.
