Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Officially Rated By The MPAA

The MPAA has officially handed out a PG-13 rating to Godzilla: King of the Monsters, despite it being a full eight months down the road.

Here’s your bizarre film fact of the day: Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a blockbuster sequel that’s still a full eight months out, has officially been rated by the MPAA while Venom, a movie that’s due to hit theaters in less than four weeks, is yet to receive an official rating. Like we said, bizarre.

The latter tentpole was originally tipped for a hard R rating, though it’ll likely fall into the much more palatable PG-13 rating when all is said and done – ditto for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which was today rated PG-13 for “sequences of monster action violence and destruction, and for some language.”

First spotted by the good folks at Bloody Disgusting, this MPAA listing tells us next to nothing about the core plot underpinning King of the Monsters, aside from the fact that it’ll feature “sequences of monster action violence” as Gojira and his three beastly enemies – namely Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah – clash in spectacular fashion.

The sequel’s inaugural teaser trailer confirmed as much, too, and the shots of those god-like titans were only amplified by the haunting rendition of “Clair de Lune.” Make no mistake, Michael Dougherty’s creature feature is shaping up to be an incredibly stylish entry into the ever-evolving MonsterVerse, which only leaves us frothing at the mouth for Godzilla Vs. Kong to light up theaters next summer.

But first things first: Godzilla: King of the Monsters will welcome Gojira back to the fray in time for a Herculean grudge match the likes of which we’ve never seen before. The fate of the planet seemingly hangs in the balance, so we’re counting down the days until May 31st, 2019.
