Arguably even more so than the X-Men, the rights to the Fantastic Four returning to Marvel Studios with the Disney-Fox merger should be good for the property, as the House of Ideas’ First Family is in dire need of an enjoyable movie. Luckily for the studio, fans have already collectively cast the new versions of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman in the form of real-life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.
We’ve already seen fan art imagining the pair as Reed Richard and Sue Storm, but YouTuber StryderHD has gone one step further and mocked up a trailer for what an MCU Fantastic Four movie could be like. Alongside the necessary picks of Krasinski and Blunt, the video also casts Zac Efron as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Vin Diesel as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Using the framework of the trailer for the 2015 Fantastic Four, the fan-made effort does a really great job of showing what these actors could look like as the Four. Through the use of some well-placed footage from their other projects, StryderHD also puts a good case forward for Efron and Diesel as Johnny and Ben. Plus, Michael Fassbender is just the sort of performer with a lot of gravitas who could finally do Doctor Doom justice. Still, there’s little chance he would commit to playing another Marvel villain after becoming so synonymous with Magneto.
Interestingly enough, the team could have returned to cinemas this year as Deadpool 2 almost featured the cast of the 2015 movie back in their roles for a quick cameo. Though this didn’t make it before the cameras, concept art has revealed that the group would’ve looked a little closer to their classic comic book counterparts if the original plan had gone ahead.
As for their future in the MCU, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed once pitched a 60s-set Fantastic Four movie to Fox, something he’s still interested in making. So perhaps he can try again when the rights revert to Marvel and potentially get his vision off the ground?
