Miramax CEO Teases Possible Reboots For Scream And Hellraiser

Via Cinema Blend, Miramax CEO and Halloween producer Bill Block has confirmed that the company is mulling over possible reboots for Scream and Hellraiser.

The Halloween of 2018 is steeped in the rich horror legacy of John Carpenter’s original, that much we know, and it seems this procedure of revisiting (and indeed revamping) existing IP could become something of a recurring trend for Miramax.

This is, after all, the studio that helped produce Blumhouse’s horror sequel, and it’s fair to say that Miramax is well versed on Carpenter’s infamous boogeyman, given that they’ve previously collaborated on The Curse of Michael Myers, H20 and the so-bad-it’s-good Resurrection.

Beyond Halloween, though, are there any other dormant horror properties that could receive a new lease of life under Blumhouse – like, say, Scream? Turns out ol’ Ghostface is very much on Jason Blum’s radar, while Bill Block, CEO of Miramax, told Cinema Blend that the Hellraiser franchise is another horror IP on the table.

Halloween was a Miramax license, and you’ll see more of these coming from the studio now… I will have some things to share with you. You mentioned something there that we’re working on – two things in there that we’re working on [Hellraiser and Scream]. This is going to be a part of the new program.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser series hasn’t seen the warm light of day since Judgment, while Scream is in dire need of some fresh blood – even Blumhouse chief Jason Blum, another producer credited for his involvement in Halloween, believes it’s high time for Ghostface’s return.

There’s currently no mention of a Scream reboot just yet, but at the very least, fans can take solace in the fact that a franchise revival is very much on the cards over at Miramax and Blumhouse.

Halloween, meanwhile, opens wide on October 19th, and if it’s more coverage you’re after, you can have a gander at our official review of David Gordon Green’s sequel, fresh from the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.
