Brie Larson Shuts Down The Captain Marvel Haters

Over on Instagram, Brie Larson responded to those ridiculous Captain Marvel haters in the best possible way – with a series of Photoshopped MCU posters.

Of all the major talking points to emerge from Captain Marvel‘s wondrous first teaser trailer (a two-eyed Nick Fury! Skrulls! Blockbuster Video!), a vocal minority twigged on to the fact that Brie Larson’s costumed crusader doesn’t smile all the much during the two-minute sizzle reel. Really.

This ridiculous observation has led to a series of Photoshopped images that take important screenshots from the Captain Marvel teaser – like, say, Carol Danvers sitting in a cockpit – and forcibly curl her lips into a smile. Welcome to the Internet of 2018, ladies and gentlemen.

It’s a ‘backlash’ that has since been labelled misogynistic, as no one – and we really do mean no one – is running around telling Tony Stark or Steve Rogers to lighten up when they’re facing off against extraterrestrial threats. And that’s exactly how Brie Larson responded to the haters; with a series of Photoshopped movie posters for the likes of Doctor Strange, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3.

All three can be spotted in the video below, courtesy of Entertainment Tonight:

In much more positive news, the Captain Marvel trailer is already a record-setter, after accumulating more than 109 million views in only 24 hours – higher than even Captain America: Civil War and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.

Suffice it to say, the pent-up demand for Brie Larson’s cosmic hero helped pushed those figures into the stratosphere, and while it would be foolish to draw up box office predictions this early in the game, it certainly bodes well for a strong (and potentially record-breaking?) opening weekend.

Here’s Brie Larson herself commenting on the Marvel metrics:

Higher. Further. Faster. The standalone Captain Marvel movie will make a beeline for theaters on March 8th, 2019.
