Amid news that Scarlet Witch and the God of Mischief are on the verge of getting their own unique TV shows, a number of impassioned Marvel fans are crying out for Korg to receive the same treatment.
First spotted by ComicBook.com, the groundswell of support can be traced back to Twitter, where a small pocket of MCU fans voiced their support of Taika Waititi’s alien, who was far and away one of the breakout characters from Thor: Ragnarok – a compliment in and of itself, given last year’s cosmic threequel also signalled the introduction of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
Then again, while the idea of a Korg spinoff series is immediately appealing – not least because it’ll herald the return of Waititi as Ragnarok‘s unlikely hero – we imagine Marvel will want to incorporate the character into another series before dedicating the necessary resources to a full-blown TV show.
That’s the catch-22 of being a cult favorite; while most Marvel fans can’t wait to see Korg make his return, he doesn’t quite have the necessary pulling power to warrant a dedicated spinoff. But that hasn’t quelled online enthusiasm:

There are shows I do want. I do want a Hawkeye series of Fraction’s run (a film could never do it justice). I’d like a series of Nebula & Gamora’s time as children & serving Thanos. I want a Korg show. I want a Hulk show if Marvel has Hulk’s TV rights

This hypothetical show would presumably premiere via Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service, which is now going by the name Disney Play. A 2019 launch is on the cards for what many consider to be the company’s Netflix killer, and with the likes of Star Wars and Marvel in its ranks, it would be foolish to underestimate the Mouse House’s digital roster.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Disney Play as it nears release, along with the type of content set to be included on launch day. Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars series has already garnered a ton of buzz, but it’s by no means the only trick up Disney’s proverbial sleeve…
