Did Marvel Reveal The Soul Stone’s Location In The Original Thor?

The location of the Soul Stone was a huge plot point in Avengers: Infinity War. With Thanos desiring all the stones to carry out his genocidal plans, the Soul Stone proved to be the most tricky to track down. One of the few to know its true location was his adopted daughter Gamora, who swore to keep it a secret from him. However, faced with the sight of her sister Nebula being tortured, she finally revealed its location, which led to her death when Thanos sacrificed her to get his hands on it.

But according to an eagle-eyed Redditor named GrandMoff_Harry, Vormir might have been under our noses all along, as it seems to have been depicted in both Thor and Thor: Ragnarok as a distinctively eclipsed planet with a corona of sun surrounding it.

Check out his comparison below:

It’s a convincing similarity, but was Marvel Studios intentionally teasing Vormir years before Infinity War was even properly planned out by the Russo Brothers? I think probably not.

Other users in the thread argue that the similarity is most likely due to the effects house reusing CGI assets when making their background. Some are a bit more charitable, though, saying that while the distinctive planet probably wasn’t intended to be the location of the Soul Stone when Kenneth Branagh put it in Thor, it may as well be retroactively canonized as being the case now.

Whatever ended up happening, it’s kind of impressive that people are still watching these movies this closely (though they still miss obvious stuff on occasion) to tease out the hidden connections between them. With fans going over every frame of the MCU films with a fine-tooth comb, it puts a huge amount of pressure on Marvel Studios to get their continuity right. So far, they’ve just about lived up to the challenge (the kerfuffle about Odin having the Infinity Gauntlet on display aside), but it’ll be interesting to see how they do in Phases 4 and 5.
