Regardless of what you thought of the recent Solo: A Star Wars Story, most of us can agree that the film’s explanation of the origin of Han Solo’s surname was both unnecessary and pretty damn silly. Though you may be thankful that an equivalent explanation was spared for Han’s old friend Lando, co-writer Jonathan Kasdan has just revealed the full name of Donald Glover’s character, and in all fairness, it’s a moniker that seems elaborate and eccentric enough to earn a story in itself.
Landonis Balthazar Calrissian III is reportedly the full name of the smooth gambler, with Kasdan confirming as such via Twitter:
“It’s actually Landonis Balthazar Calrissian III and we recorded [Phoebe Waller-Bridge] saying that but to put in his full name would’ve meant reediting like two weeks before we had to lock picture and I was told we couldn’t. Another regret.”
With that last part, Kasdan could be referring to a whole range of regrets, given the rocky path that Solo took to cinemas. Earlier this month, the writer himself released a long list of changes that were made when the project’s directorial reigns were passed from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to Ron Howard, though the biggest disappointment of the film’s journey was almost certainly its disastrous box office performance.
Now that Solo: A Star Wars Story has provided the franchise with its first real flop, Disney has announced that it will be slowing down its Star Wars output for the near future. Naturally, Kasdan isn’t banking on a sequel anytime soon, but we can at least confirm that we haven’t seen the last of Landonis Balthazar Calrissian III.
After all, Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise the role once more in Star Wars: Episode IX, which you can catch in cinemas from December 20th, 2019.
