Ryan Reynolds Responds To Deadpool 2’s PG-13 Cut

The news that Deadpool 2 will be re-released later this year in a softer PG-13 cut was largely met with condemnation and bewilderment from the fanbase, so it’s understandable that an insider like Ryan Reynolds would want to play it coy on the matter.

The news that Deadpool 2 will be re-released later this year in a softer PG-13 cut was largely met with condemnation and bewilderment from the fanbase, so it’s understandable that an insider like Ryan Reynolds would want to play it coy on the matter.

The actor and writer took to Twitter with a brief response to the announcement, but rather than offering his own take on whether a more child-friendly version of the R-rated hit is a good idea or not, Reynolds instead opened up the floor with just one word: “Thoughts?”

The text came with the accompanying still of The Princess Bride star Fred Savage being read a bedtime story by the Merc with a Mouth. From the look of things, this set-up could be one way that the PG-13 Deadpool 2 will skim over gorier parts of the plot while simultaneously offering a cheeky parody of a classic fantasy film.

Anyway, in answer to Reynolds’ question, it’s clear that a lot of fans aren’t too pleased with this whole idea, with many feeling that to cut all the violence and swearing from a Deadpool movie would be a complete betrayal of the character.

What’s more, with Deadpool 2 now available on home release (with an even darker Super Duper Cut, no less), many younger fans will have already had the chance to watch the feature before its PG-13 version comes out this winter. And with Aquaman and Bumblebee scheduled for release on the same weekend, you have to wonder how many people will be running to the cinema to see a presumably worse version of a months-old movie.

All that being said, if you still count yourself among this version’s supporters, then you can see it in theaters from December 21st, 2018.
