Here’s How Ryan Reynolds Kept The Deadpool Before Christmas A Secret

Last week Fox blindsided fans across the internet with the reveal that a PG-13 Deadpool movie is headed for cinemas later this year. While we’ve since been told that the name of this release will be The Deadpool Before Christmas, there’s not a lot we can confirm yet about the upcoming project, though it’s been widely assumed that the film will be a family-friendly reworking of Deadpool 2.

Though star Ryan Reynolds is keeping relatively quiet on the pic, producer Simon Kinberg has been singing the actor and writer’s praises for how he helped keep this release a secret for so long, explaining to Collider how Reynolds has a knack for commanding and deflecting the attention of the general public.

“Ryan Reynolds and his studio—but I will give credit to Ryan Reynolds more than anyone else—is extraordinary at figuring out ways to get around the system. And be clever, both in terms of getting attention when it comes to viral stuff and in terms of deflecting attention when it comes to something like this. In the same way that Beyonce and Kanye can drop an album out of nowhere, Ryan figured out a way to drop a movie out of nowhere.”

Evidently, the cat is out of the bag now, but Kinberg remains reluctant to divulge any further details on what exactly this project will be.

“Zero percent am I answering anything. Zero percent am I answering that,” Kinberg said. “You’re going to get nothing on that than my admiration for the way that Ryan and the studio has managed to keep it a secret up to this point.”

While Kinberg and his peers may be staying tight-lipped on the movie, plenty of fans have voiced their opinions loud and clear, and it sounds like Reynolds may have to do even better on his PR game if he’s going to win over filmgoers on this idea. For many followers of the Merc with a Mouth’s escapades, a Deadpool movie without violence and swearing is no Deadpool movie at all, though the alleged plan of structuring the story around a Princess Bride parody admittedly sounds like one idea they could genuinely pull off.

In any case, if a less potty-mouthed Wade Wilson sounds like your kind of thing, then you can catch The Deadpool Before Christmas in cinemas from December 21st.
