Looks like it’s 10 films and out for the star-spangled patriot.
Amid intense rumors about Cap’s future in the MCU – or lack thereof – Steve Rogers himself, Chris Evans, has confirmed his plans to exit Marvel’s juggernaut franchise now that the reshoots on Avengers 4 are complete. Or at least, now that his portion of the reshoots are done.
Taking to Twitter earlier today, the actor shared a heartfelt message with his fans, thanking them for all their support over the years and implying that his time as Captain America has now come to an end.
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.
Of course, Cap has long been considered one of, if not THE, most likely hero to meet their maker in Avengers 4. I mean, Evans has been hinting at his MCU exit for a few years now, even saying that he thought about giving up acting as a whole at one stage. With that in mind, it makes sense that he’s now leaving the franchise behind and not choosing to renew his contract.
In terms of the story though, it also works well that Steve Rogers’ arc comes to a close in the Infinity War sequel. After all, Cap’s the first Avenger and has been fighting the good fight since World War II. If Avengers 4 really does close the book on the first ten years of the MCU, it’d be pretty symbolic if he was to give his life in the fight against Thanos.
But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet. For now, we can all look forward to seeing Captain America one last time in Avengers 4, where he’ll come together with the rest of the remaining heroes to reverse the Mad Titan’s devastating snap. Concept art promises that he’ll be clean-shaven and back in his classic suit for the movie, too, and we can’t wait to see what he gets up to as we now know it’ll be his final appearance in the MCU.
