Dave Bautista Drops Another Hint That He Might Not Return For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may currently be on hold in the wake of James Gunn’s firing, reports suggest that Disney still plans to push ahead with the project, and with Gunn’s own script, no less. But whether or not Dave Bautista will be along for the ride remains up in the air, and with his latest tweet, the actor known for playing Drax added further fuel to the speculation that he’ll be bowing out of the MCU after next year’s Avengers 4.

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may currently be on hold in the wake of James Gunn’s firing, reports suggest that Disney still plans to push ahead with the project, and with Gunn’s own script, no less. Bautista’s message was written in response to the news that Gunn has found new work as the writer and possible director of the planned Suicide Squad 2. As a committed defender of Gunn, the development left the star with one question:

“Where do I sign up!”

Since it’s part of Marvel actors’ contracts that they can’t appear in any DC movies, signing up for Suicide Squad 2 would be impossible unless Bautista left the MCU. Of course, he may not have meant this statement literally, but it’s hard to ignore the implications of the tweet after he stated last month that he’s unsure if he still wants to work for Disney. Bautista has slammed the company online in the past, and even if the Mouse House doesn’t end up firing him, he certainly looks like he might leave of his own free will.

Regardless, while the future remains uncertain for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the phrase “total recasting” has already been thrown around as a possibility for Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2. So, if Bautista’s serious with his statement, then a few spots just might be open for some new players in the DCEU. Either way, you’ll be able to catch Drax at least one more time when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3rd, 2019.
