CBS Developing New DC TV Show Based On The Secret Six

You see, the project has received a pilot production commitment, as Rick Muirragui (Suits) will write and executive produce, with Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold executive producing via Doozer Productions. As good as Greg Berlanti has proven to be with comic book-based TV shows, I’m glad to see his name not being attached, lest he be spread too thin.

As for the plot itself, Variety says that the series “follows six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own unique specialties and secret pasts. They are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite.”

By now, you’re probably thinking that sounds kind of similar to Suicide Squad, and it actually does. In truth, this is a beast of its own, but the similarities shared were likely key in generating interest at the network.

Unfortunately, which characters are set to appear currently remain unknown, but it’s worth mentioning how heavy hitters like Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Bane and King Shark had been included in the comics. Granted, some of those are likely off limits so that there’s no overlap with Suicide Squad flicks, though you have to admit that Bane’s involvement would no doubt turn some heads.

Of course, there’s no guarantee of this being ordered to series, but if all goes smoothly, a pilot will likely be shot in the spring before the execs make the ultimate decision in time for May’s fall upfronts. This is the timetable CBS went with Supergirl following its initial announcement, so it stands to reason the same will hold true in this case.

As always, we encourage you to keep watching this space, as there’ll no doubt be more to discuss in the near future when it comes to Secret Six.
