When will these competing brand superheroes learn to just get along?
In a recent Instagram post from Zachary Levi, the star of DC’s upcoming Shazam! movie, trolled Ryan Reynolds with a photo showing how he’d taken the Deadpool actor’s parking space. To add insult to injury, the image came with the following caption:
“Bruh, don’t have me towed. I genuinely had to take a massive emergency shit and this was the only spot to pull over. Oh, also, I took a massive emergency shit in your bathroom. Might wanna hit that with some Febreeze, or burn it to the ground.”
Given how many shots the Merc with a Mouth has taken at his fellow superheroes – and the DC movies in particular – perhaps it’s about time that the Marvel Comics character is subject to a little pestering himself.
The character of Shazam already has a unique connection to DC’s biggest rivals, in that the hero previously went by the name Captain Marvel, a title since taken by imminent MCU arrival of Carol Danvers. With both figures set to make their big screen debuts in 2019, Levi has already mentioned that his movie has a little fun with the name change. It seems that Wade Wilson isn’t the only one to make jokes that break the fourth wall.
Earlier this month, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to acknowledge his film’s ties to next year’s Captain Marvel movie, writing:
“Had my first “Oh, Shazam! I love everything Brie Larson is in!” #OriginalCaptainMarvel”
Billy Batson may have come first in the comics, but Captain Marvel beats him to the cinema, hitting theaters on March 8th, 2019, before Shazam! comes out on April 5th. With dates so close together, it seems that the Marvel-DC rivalry will rage on into the new year. Wade, meanwhile, is making his return to screens a little sooner, with The Deadpool Before Christmas out on December 21st.
