It’s been a long time since The Walking Dead‘s season 7 premiere, when poor Maggie had to watch her husband and the father of her unborn child be brutally murdered in front of her eyes. The culprit, of course, was Negan, the uber-villain who was finally bested at the end of season 8.

Controversially, Rick Grimes decided to spare the life of the tyrant – a decision not supported by Maggie, who’d been waiting to get her own back on Negan for Glenn’s death. We don’t know if that’s going to happen, but it looks like Mrs. Rhee will at least come face to face with him again for the first time since that event in an upcoming episode of season 9.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan revealed to Us Magazine that a showdown between Negan and Maggie is going to occur in the next few weeks, saying that he’s been waiting to share a scene with his Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star for ages.

“We were very excited to have the opportunity to work together because other than the initial meet with her in clearing on her knees, I never had the chance to do anything with Lauren.”

Morgan also explained that this confrontation has been in the works for a long time, as both characters have been waiting to cross paths again.

“These two characters, her especially, have been waiting a long time to have a little one-on-one time. And Negan knows it. Negan knows that she’s been looking for him and he’s waiting on her.”

As for whether the scene will live up to the years of drama that’ve built up since they last met, Morgan promised that TWD fans will get “goosebumps” when it plays out.

“It’s very emotional. I think the audience is gonna get goosebumps. It’s very heavy.”

Showrunner Angela Kang was also on hand to confirm that Morgan and Lauren Cohan’s performances in the sequence are incredible.

“I was sitting there watching and I got chills from just their work. I love the writing, but also their performances are so incredible and moving and surprising.”

We don’t know exactly when this Negan-Maggie face-off will take place, but the folks over at ComicBook.com have made an educated guess that it could fall in episode 6, as Cohan’s previously singled that one out as a Maggie-centric hour.

Whenever it happens, though, know that The Walking Dead season 9 reaches episode 2, titled “The Bridge,” this Sunday on AMC.
