After proving himself once again as one of the greatest minds of our time with Super 8, New York Magazine has confirmed that J.J. Abrams will direct another Star Trek film.

Abrams’ hesitation to commit forced Paramount to give Star Trek‘s summer 2012 release date to a G.I. Joe sequel, a decision I’m sure we will all regret.

Alex Kurtzman, one of the writers of the first film, has also been busy with other commitments, but with his return, the team has been reassembled.

Insiders say the script will be finished at the end of this month and filming will begin this winter. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any additional details.
