In the eyes of John Krasinski, A Quiet Place was always a one-time gig – that is, until now.

After gobbling up more than $300 million worldwide, Paramount quickly ordered a follow-up to its beloved sleeper hit, and while Krasinski was initially in two minds about returning to the world of blind and barbaric monsters, he’s now confirmed via The Hollywood Reporter that, yes, he’ll be penning the script to A Quiet Place 2.

A 2020 release date clearly gave Krasinski ample time to mull over the fate of his horror sequel, ultimately leading him to the decision to have another crack at his apocalyptic thriller. While soliciting questions at the Silver Screen Theatre in Los Angeles, the writer-director said the following about A Quiet Place:

That was my intention for the movie itself. Then I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, ‘Just go do the movie with somebody else.’

A Quiet Place flickered into life under screenwriters Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, before John Krasinski added some finishing touches to the script from the comfort of the director’s chair. Whether he winds up helming the sequel is another question entirely, but at the very least, fans can rest assured that the creative powerhouse is back for round two in some capacity.

He continued:

They heard some pitches, and I told Drew about this little idea. And he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.

The tentatively titled A Quiet Place 2 is currently booked in for May 15th, 2020 – the same date on which Paramount plans to launch its long-in-development sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
