Marvel Eyeing Female Directors To Replace James Gunn On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Word on the street is that Marvel is looking at a number of female directors to replace James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Before July 2018, James Gunn and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy were practically synonymous. Oh, how times have changed.

Due to a number of disturbing and offensive tweets from the past resurfacing, Gunn was fired from the MCU over the summer, leaving Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without a director and the cosmic side of Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut in need of a new shepherd.

As things stand, the search for a replacement is still underway, with sources saying that Disney’s in no real rush and is content to take their time in finding the perfect candidate. Be that as it may, the film remains a priority for the studio, and from what we understand, they’ve got their eye on a number of female directors.

Word comes via Omega Underground’s Christopher Marc, who had the following to say on Twitter:

Hearing that the bulk of the directors Marvel is looking at to replace James Gunn on GUARDIANS 3 are ladies and the names are fantastic!

Unfortunately, Marc wouldn’t drop any names, but there are certainly more than enough qualified female directors who could take the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Though with production now pushed back to 2021, it’ll probably be a while before Marvel announces who’ll be leading the charge.

And while we certainly trust the studio to make the right decision, anyone who dares accept the job will no doubt face intense scrutiny right up until the moment that the threequel makes its way into theaters. We don’t envy the director that Kevin Feige and co. ultimately go with then, but we can at least take comfort in the fact that they still plan to use James Gunn’s script.

As soon as we get some further updates on the director situation, we’ll be sure to let you know, but in the meantime, tell us, who would you like to see get behind the camera for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Make yourself heard in the comments section down below.
