Falcon And Winter Soldier TV Show Coming To Disney Streaming Service

Variety is reporting tonight that Marvel is planning a Falcon and Winter Soldier TV show for Disney's upcoming streaming service.

While a tentative release window has been set – sometime in 2019 – further details on Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service couldn’t be dripping onto the internet any slower. Thankfully, though, the House of Mouse has been picking up the pace as of late and tonight, we’ve just received some massive news.

Disney Play, as it’s being called, is apparently the “biggest priority of the company during calendar [year] 2019” and to prove it, some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be making their way onto the streaming service. And no, we don’t mean via the MCU films. Though those will be available on there, too.

Instead, we’re talking about TV shows for some of the franchise’s most popular characters. Already, we know that both Loki and Scarlet Witch are getting their own series and tonight, Variety reports that the Falcon and Winter Soldier are teaming up for a show of their own as well, to be written by Empire‘s Malcom Spellman.

Like the projects for Wanda and the God of Mischief, this will be a six to eight episode limited series and produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, ensuring it’s at the level of quality fans have come to expect from the MCU. Variety notes that all of these shows will have large budgets as well, but details beyond that remain scarce.

As two of the most popular supporting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it makes a lot of sense to give the Falcon and Winter Soldier their own starring vehicle, especially since fans love the dynamic they share. Whether this means that we can count them both out as candidates for who’ll take up the Captain America mantle next in the MCU, we don’t know, but either way, more of these two heroes can only be a good thing and as soon as further details on their solo series emerge, we’ll be sure to let you know.
