Star Wars: Episode IX Rumor Suggests There’s A Traitor In The First Order

The events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi left The Resistance in a very fragile state, but the First Order isn’t exactly a model of stability these days either, with the sudden and unexpected death of Snoke opening up a leadership spot that was quickly claimed by the young and erratic Kylo Ren. When it comes to exuding an air of authority and confidence, this new Supreme Leader is no Darth Vader, lending credence to the persistent rumor that Star Wars: Episode IX will reveal a traitor in the First Order’s midst.

A report which sprang up a couple of months ago, but has lately been getting some renewed attention, asserts that Kylo suspects one of his subordinates to be sharing information with The Resistance, and that this leaker is none other than General Hux.

While Domhnall Gleeson’s villain has made it very clear that he’s not a fan of the rebels, he certainly seems like a petty enough figure to harm the First Order just to make Kylo look bad, especially since the highly emotional pair have been known to have a few clashes of egos. And with Kylo still a relatively new figure at the top of the chain of command, you can imagine that Hux could see an opportunity to for a coup of his own.

Of course, while this rumor doesn’t seem too out-there, none of it has been confirmed either, meaning that Hux could be having a very different journey in next year’s trilogy-closer. Gleeson, for one, is hoping he’ll have the opportunity to continue in the comedic vein of The Last Jedi, but we’ll see how many laughs this character manages to get in before his inevitably ugly end when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
