Tom Hiddleston Said To Be Odds-On Favorite To Play James Bond Next

The James Bond camp has been awfully quiet ever since Danny Boyle shocked us all by exiting the project – it seems we have creative differences to thank for that one – but things are still moving along, as the Powers That Be over at EON recently hired Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) to take the lead on Bond 25 and replace Boyle.

Of course, there’s still no news on what the plot may involve, or who else will join Daniel Craig in the film, but chatter’s picked up lately in regards to who may be stepping into the iconic role next, after Craig puts down his Walther PPK and walks away from the franchise. And though nothing’s been confirmed just yet, a fan favorite anti-hero over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found himself coming up in conversation quite often.

Yes, according to Express, Tom Hiddleston is once again the odds-on favorite to replace Craig and become the next James Bond. The 37-year-old actor, best known for his role as Loki in the MCU, has had his odds cut down to 9/4, climbing over previous favorites Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

“Hiddleston’s Marvel role might be a million miles away from the world of 007 but it’s going to be another reminder of his acting skills and punters are backing him to be the next Bond,” said a Coral spokesperson.

“He’s now one of the leading candidates according to our odds and he’s definitely in with a chance of following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps.”

Of course, this is hardly firm confirmation that Hiddleston’s indeed being eyed to take over as the new 007 once Craig departs, but it’s interesting that he’s risen to the top of the pack once again. Although, he’s still got some tough competition, with Richard Madden and the aforementioned Elba still said to be popular picks, while Cillian Murphy and Aidan Turner are names that’ve been tossed around, too.

It’s Hiddleston who’s in the lead, though and he may very well land the role. Especially since producer Barbara Broccoli just recently confirmed that they won’t cast a woman. All we can tell you for sure at the moment though is that Daniel Craig has at least one more adventure as 007 on his plate, which will be in the upcoming Bond 25.
