On top of the first teaser trailer for Pixar’s hotly anticipated Toy Story 4 which arrived – and broke the internet – this morning, Disney has also served up the first synopsis for the movie as well as its first poster.

To begin with, much like the teaser, the poster for Toy Story 4 doesn’t reveal anything about the plot but rather, boasts a simple design featuring a solo Woody tipping his hat at us, which serves as an exciting reminder that the cowboy doll and his friends will be back on the big screen in just a few short months. Specifically, this coming June.

Meanwhile, the synopsis offers a little more for fans to chew on as we try and work out what the story of the fourth movie in this eternally-beloved franchise will be. As always, it seems that the heart of the film will focus on Woody learning something about himself and the world around him as he and his pals embark on “a road trip adventure.”

“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date?) and produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside OutUp) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer Inside Out), Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.”

Toy Story 4 has been a long time coming, as it was initially meant to land in summer 2017 (before it was replaced with Cars 3), then summer 2018 (before it was replaced by Incredibles 2) and now, June 2019. Part of the delay was caused by writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack walking away from the project due to “philosophical differences” – likely connected to Pixar founder John Lasseter’s sexual harassment allegations – but things got back on track when Stephany Folsom was brought on board to rewrite their work.

We’ve previously been told that Toy Story 4 is a “romantic comedy” which will see Woody reunite with his lost love Bo Peep, revealed to have been given away prior to the events of Toy Story 3Both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have spoken about how heartbreaking the ending of the fourth film will be as well, with the latter even comparing it to the devastating climax of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War

And we’ll see for ourselves if he’s right when Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21st, 2019.
