Among these heartfelt responses is a post on Instagram from Tom Holland. The Spider-Man star offered up a touching tribute to Stan and in doing so, acknowledged that he’s indebted to him.

How many millions of us are indebted to this guy, none more so than me. The father of Marvel has made so many people so incredibly happy. What a life and what a thing to have achieved. Rest in peace Stan.

Of course, as Holland points out here, he isn’t the only one who owes a debt to Lee’s work. For another example, just look at his MCU co-star Chris Evans, best known for his roles as Captain America in the aforementioned Marvel Cinematic Universe and before that, the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films. The actor took to Twitter earlier today with a tribute of his own to the late, great Stan Lee, saying:

“There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!”

The current superhero landscape on both the page and screen will always be Stan Lee’s world in the eyes of many a fan, with his work on such iconic heroes as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four and Daredevil helping to make Marvel into the pop culture juggernaut it is today. He may be gone, but his legacy and wonderful creations will always live on and we can’t thank him enough for his contributions to this world.

RIP Stan Lee, and thank you for everything you gave us.
